Attempting to add a Printer and not able to

I use Windows XP Pro

When I go to control panel, and select printers and other hardware, and then 'add a printer', I get an error that says 'Operation Could Not be Completed'' Not sure as to why this is, I could always add printers before regardless if a printer was hooked up or not (some sort of virtual printer) not sure what to do, any help would be appreciated.

i get a similar prob when adding network printers. Eventually the spooler service dies, and i cant print anything

hmm is this for ur like network or just normal use? i mean, if the installation doesnt succeed. then go to the manufactuers site and download the drivers for it and install from there. that should work....

Printers

How do I check if I have the admin privelages? The reason I don't do the suggested thing with the printer is I don't actually have a printer. I know you can add like a virtual one though. The purpose of this is a piece of software that wasn't written well that my wife uses for work, she is a medical transcriptionist and when she closes her work software it attempts to print something, but as there is no device that can do so it locks up. She doesn't intend to print anything, just doesn't want the software to lockup... I have formatted since last I attempted to add a printer, and that worked fine.

ok... so u DONT have the printer. well all u can do to check is start, and click on ur account name on the top to get u to the settings. or just control panel and users. and yea.

Does anyone have any idea as to why I'd be getting this error when trying to add a printer? It doesn't matter that there is no printer as I'm sure the average computer user knows, it stills give you the ability to go through the motions of attempting to add one whether something is present via USB or LPT port or not. Any service I might have turned off or anything that might be running that would be causing this?
