Audio Advertisement Virus; Help Please!

Audio clips from what seems to be advertisements play on my computer at random times, even though I can't see any pop-ups on my screen, please help me solve this problem, I would really appreciate it!

I cannot stress this enough, in the future please do not run Combofix without being instructed to do so. And to begin, follow these instructions VERY closely.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware HERE or HERE and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    o and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Open HijackThis and click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Looks like you have an MBR rootkit infection.


Download MBRCheck to your desktop.

  • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
  • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:

    Done! Press ENTER to exit...

  • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:

    Found non-standard or infected MBR.
    Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:

  • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
  • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.30.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
