Audio and EQ program needed

Greetings all!

(win xp pro, plenty of hd spce and ram)

Been a while....I have a 2 part inquiry here. Is there a FREEWARE program that will allow me to record (stereo) any sound that my computer/sound car hears? I glanced at a few but, they had "down-loaders" in them that in the past had installed other crap on my computer.
A straight-a-way full program download would be great for BOTH programs/requests.

2nd.....I have a friend in a band in another state that sent me a music cd that has a few recorded songs on it that i would like to see if i can "clean up".....Is there a FREEWARE program (equalizer) that I can install to play this disc and re-record the disc after cleaning it up?...Thanks Again!

Audacity is free. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

But I like Wavepad which is not free.

Also, your sound card needs to have the ability to record from the "what you hear." http://www.ehow.com/how_7763496_check-sound-card-fullduplex.html

.....Thanks for the reply...downloaded it and may be what i am looking for......However, when i attempted to "save" a test clip as an mp3, it wanted a "dll" file in order to be saved........Anyone have this issue and WHERE can i download the dll file FOR VERSION 2.1.0...I did download a dll but, was NOT compatible with my version.
