Audio Codec

I'm trying to play an audio file, but I get this message:

You've encountered an error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Microsoft MPEG-1 (50) codec is not installed on your computer.

I looked for the codec on the net but I can't find it anywhere.

Just found a couple of solutions (as posted on other sites):

Try renaming the file from .mp3 to .mp2 That seems to have worked for some people. Or possibly a better solution is to install the Vista Codec Package

Again, this is not from my personal experience, I found this information here (Scroll down).

So the Vista Codec Package didn't work? Crappy.

Okay, to change a file extension open Windows Explorer and goto the menu Tools -> Folder Options... -> View (tab) and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types

Now go to the folder that has the file you want to rename and right-click on the file and choose Rename (or press F2) and just change the extension.
