Is it possible to get a song, and properly seperate the audio from the singing. if so, how can this be done? What programs are needed?

It is possible, but then again it isn't. Basically, there are plenty of programs out there that profess to do what you need, just do a google search for remove vocal.

Having said that, the quality of the result is never anywhere near backing track quality, which is why there is a huge karaoke industry of selling original backing tracks and/or exact reproductions.
