audio tape to CD

Hi, everyone.

I am hoping to transfer my collection of audio cassettes to CD via my PC and would be grateful if anyone who has tried this has any useful tips before I start?

Also do I need to download any special software to enable me to do this?

Help and advice gratefully received.:)

you need to use a line-in connection. Basically, if your computer has a line-in port on the sound card, you could use a recording program to capture the sound (I have never done this myself though). Another option is an mp3 player with line-in.

Hi, Starwarsman,

Thanks for replying. When you say an mp3 player with line in I don't really know what you mean will you clarify please?

I know what an mp3 player is of course just not clear how this fits in with what I want to do?

what he means is you need a walkman with headphones socket, and a double ended plug, you then plug the double ended plug into the microphone socket so the music is playing from the walkman to the pc speakers. then use windows recorder or something similar to record it whilst its playing

Thanks for the info. I am going to use a hi-fi cassette deck rather than a "walkman" on the assumption that the transfer might be of better quality. Am I wrong in that assumption?

Good thinking using a high quality cassette deck. Personally, I have a NAK BX-300 and love. Made a huge difference over my old ghetto blaster. Also make sure you have quality cables. As for software, it doesn't really matter. Audicity is free and works nicely. Good luck.

Hi, 69mako,

Thanks for the advice and for your suggestion about software as I had no idea what to use for this purpose.
