Good question as i have the same problem on my laptop right now with the .net framework version 2 or something its always there and i have even tried to download the individual file and it still will not update any help would be greatly appreciated by me as well.

Do you guys have legal copies of XP?
Also, you should go into the settings in Control Panel to set it up so that it let's you know when it it going to download a file and install it so you have full control when you want to update or not.

Sounds like Office is pirated. I know someone who had pirated Office 2003 and those office updates wouldnt install.

Might be it. Automatic updates will download on an illegal OS, but won't install. This is different if you are doing it via your browser so don't get them confused. Additionally, do you guys have SP2 installed? It needs that also; a side not, if you have any antivirus or any security issues, disable them for the time being.

There's an article you can look into:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077

Other than that, if you previously had an earlier version, you can uninstall that version first and try again. A post made here, the very last one.
