unfortunately budget is kind of an issue and this is just about at my limit..can you recommend another card other than the 7300 gt that is about the same cost wise? im not really a big gamer but im gonna do a bit of it- nothing hardcore.

psus= power supply? sorry I'm really low tech, lol!

BTW, thanks for the info!

Don't use the psus with cases
And why not?

7300 gt is horrible get a 7600 gt
You're making an assumption there...

If you can post a budget, i can have a look in greater detail for you

Yes thats correct

Hi Praetor...

My budget was/ is 1300..i really cant go much over that. the original configuration had the 7600GT in it but went over budget to 1400+. i messed around with the original and came up with this, shown below. the only thing not on it is the tv tuner/ capture card. what do you think of this one?

thanks for the help!

btw, i was going to get a Dell XPS 410....how would what i listed stack up to that?

Well, from Dell,
We are sorry. The product you are looking for is no longer available. Please have a look at XPS 700 which is the latest equivalent to the XPS 410.
The actual comparison would depend on how you configure the Dell box.

As for value, the parts would cost

But keep in mind thats not including the case and psu (relatively small expense) nor the warranty and labor (the bulk of the cost). So, if the warranty is worth that extra money to you, then go for it :)

so the XPS 410 is discontinued? I'm I reading that correctly? i can still configure on online. crap.

thanks for the input on the system... is there anything you would change? about the only reason i was hedging on the dell system was the horrible customer support I've been hearing about. i have a 3 yr old dimension I've never had any problems with so its' good with the bad for me. ive had a good experience with them.

i was looking at a XPS refurb model till i got scared off by a bad review.

That depends on
1. WHat options are available
2. How much those options cost

that makes sense. now im leaning towards dell again. new system. im looking for 2gb ram, 500 gb HD, tv tuner/ capture, duel dvd drives, core duo 2.13 and Vista....no monitor or mice/ keyboards. with free shipping im gonna come out under budget. i just need to stop reading dell CS reviews.

All the stuff you've mentioned isnt particualrly ground breaking, it's not that hard for you to put together but barring that, its not hard for companies to put together either, the parts are all standardized and such. Grab the one with the best price :)

thanks for all your input!..yeah- im not really breaking new ground here but in contrast to my 512 80gb HD im using now, id like the new one really kick ass.

although im sure the dell video card, the ATI Radeon X1300 Pro isnt going to be all that great, is it?:(

That would depend on what you have now. The ballpark "old standard" performance of a 1300Pro is roughly that of a 9700Pro.

since i had no idea what i was doing back when i got this, i assume it was barebones...i didnt really upgrade anything- as you can tell be the stunning amount of RAM and HD i went with, LOL..
