for about ten minutes i was unable to move my mouse, ctrl/alt/del did nothing, but eventually i got task manager open. then to my amazement avast (ash) was taking up 50% of my processor. obviously it would have taken the full 100% if it was dual core threaded, but thats besides the point. when the freeze started i was watching 28 days later with divx here on my pc. then the movie stopped, i opened task manager, and both divx and avast were taking up 50% of my processor each.

any explanations?

EDIT: oh and when i tried to close avast from the little icon on the bottom right (the name doesnt come to mind right now...) and click stop on access protection, it doesnt change a thing. also when i tried closing the process it said that access is denied.

That doesn't mean Avast is taking up all your processor, click on anything else in taskmanager and it'll be the same, it's the total

huh? i dont understand i thought the % next to the process is what that process is currently taking up?

it is taking quite a large amount of cpu, probably becuase there is another firewall looking two, firewalls can get into loops with each other, ie ones scanning the computer, and then the next one scans the program that is scanning your computer, and then the one that started scanning your computer finds thhe second one and scans that

very confusing, thats why it takes so much cpu, basically

"1" scanning your computer
then "2" scans your antivirus software called "1" then "1" finds "2" and begins scanning that, and so on and so forth.

Hope this is of help
