How much more memory does AVG 7.5 FREE uses as compared to its previous version?

You shouldn't actually see any noticable difference. AVG is not a memory hog like you would see with programs like Norton or McAFee where system resources get bound up. The only things you could see any difference right away on would also apply to other antivirus programs when going to run certain games along with some programs.

I keep getting a reminder for this that my current free version of AVG will be discontinued on 15/01/07 - is the replacement one going to be free? Whenever I click for more information, it states that it'll cost about $70 for a year's subscription on one PC...

If this is not free, can anyone recommend a decent free one? Preferably one as reliable as AVG and doesn't hog system resources...

AVG 7.5 is the current "free" version available along with the AVG Anti-Spyware Remover found at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free If you were still running the 7.1 version the core would have been updated even though the version was 7.1. You would simply click on the check for updates button when first starting it up for the automatic download. You probably originally downloaded and installed the trial not freeware version. This is why you are now seeing an expiration date.
