AVG Anti Rootkit

I used the free version and it found 4 "somethings" on my computer but their warning prior to removal was so scary :eek:, I decided not to do anything. So, I dunno.
 
The reason I'm asking is because I recently purchased a computer that is infected with dozens of viruses and other malware. (can't beat paying $50 for a laptop that's less than a year old) I want to try to it save it instead of doing a fresh install of xp pro, because the HDD has about 30,000 mp3 files on it, including some pretty rare cd's.
