I am useing the FREE AVG Virus program and it works greate.

But now it keeps asking me to upgrade to the new verson but I don't want to because you have to pay for it.

Now I know I can just uninstall it and re install it to stop the Pop Up asking me to upgrade.

But it will only do it latter again.

Is there any free Virus program that will not ask you to upgrade and just let you use it as is?????
 
I've been getting the same message - and I'm kindof lazy so I've been ignoring it. Your post got me to download the latest version to my PC - and running scan now.

You can upgrade to FREE 9.0 - from Free 8.5 ( the old version ). You don't get an update every 30 days - it's a bit longer between version builds. Here's the link

I haven't looked into this too deeply, but it seems that AVG is trying to steer everyone who uses it toward a pay for play model. Used to be it was a decent AV but now with the ads and nag screens it isn't worth it anymore.

Been using MSE for my XP machines for a few months now and I don't have any complaints. Seems good enough, it is free if you have WGA authentication and is fairly lightweight.

Like everything else these days, everyone wants to make a buck and they do it by giving you less and less features in their "free" versions.

Can you blame them. Without revenues - they can't pay their staff to come up with the product. I've been surprised AVG provided such a good anti-virus for no cost to me.

I didn't mind paying PC-cillin as a subscriber for 2 years - and it was a good product - but when I found free AVG - I dumped PC Cillin when their renewal came aroud. So far, still stickin with AVG- but I'm open to learning all options.
