so when you install AVG and have a trial in the trial runs out you could uninstall the software and install it again after removing every trace of AVG you can even go into the registry and remove every trace of AVG there as well when I was wondering what Trace of AVG is left on the computer because AVG always knows that it's been installed in the trial has expired. is this information in the master boot record

Circumventing trial restrictions = piracy.

That being said there's a free edition you can install.

IF AVG is phoning home then your IP address may be ratting you out.
It's not done by IP. There's a file or registry key installed when you install a trial that stays even if you uninstall the software and reinstall after the trial. It prevents you from continuously uninstalling and reinstalling to use software without paying for a license.

Yeah, I thought some companies might use the IP address as an extra layer against pirates.

what anti-virus program do you use and how is it better than mine

Avast Free with Malwarebyte free. Nothing else needed. I tried the pro version, it had some interesting addons but nothing necessary.
