Avg users pay attention!

Sigh of relief!

bump And update:

Upon re-enabling AVG after a few days and hitting the update button followed by running a full system scan no items found including the main problem of AVG detecting the user32,dll file mainly in XP not Vista as a virus threat and removing it. XP users may want to copy that file out of the "C:\Windows\system32" folder onto a second drive or removable media while Grisoft appears to have corrected the problem with the weekend update they released.

Well yes many voters also saw a sign of relief while that is simply the current wallpaper behind the AVG scan in progress once past the Windows directory and proceeding on to other folders. :D I suspect that XP users won't be seeing the temporary problem any further now that Grisoft removed that from their servers for a working replacement.

Haha thanks pceye. I had a couple problems upgrading the 8.0 a while back. It wouldn't let me properly update my AVG so i just kicked it and went with avast. Works a charm.

Well I will update you people a little further having seen the latest automatic updates go onto AVG for both XP and Vista alike. I just got done running a full system sweep with AVG in both versions and not one sign of any problems except for the occasional "failed to connect to server" notification I've seen on several occasions probably when the server is down for periodic maintainence and updates.

I'm waiting to hear a little further from others looking into AVG as well since they are involved in testing and programming to see if they report any negatives in the meantime. I can imagine Grisoft like any other software company would be all over this right away since fiascles like this can hurt any company's reputation if left unchecked.

Besides AVG however I can easily point at other programs that have seen false positives like Ad-Aware SE 6.0 and others indicating the IPoint.exe file seen as part the software for MS optical mice. I made the mistake of hitting the remove button on one occasion and suddenly the programmable button were back to where they were without the software on!

I'm pretty sure patches came out on AVG site the same day or the next day the problem was reported. The only thing that was a problem is if AVG ran a scan before the files were updated.

^ Correct, luckily for me my option is to scan when I want to scan so it had no effect on me.

Here I simply have the scheduled daily scan unchecked to start with. Since 7.5 was also mentioned as being effected while that old ide just had to go back in as the primary drive again having been taken offline while beta testing with the two satas to find? nothing!

The reports about AVG removing this or that and reporting all kinds of false positives may have only been seen on a few isolated systems where someone simply clicked remove without looking at just what was getting trashed by a false alarm. No one but those in a few articles has reported any similar problems while taking a few precautions(XP users mainly) will never hurt.
