AVI to MPEG

I was wondering if anyone has a link to a reliable/free AVI to MPEG converter so I can burn dvds to use on a dvd player. Thanks.

Just use any search engine to see results like those seen at http://un.yhs.search.yahoo.com/avg/search?fr=yhs-avg&p=avi%20to%20mpeg%20converters%20freewares

Being that there are ton of free converters to go through you have to look over a few like the DigitalVideo Converter seen at http://www.bestfreewaredownload.com...digitalvideo-converter-freeware-kmkatfjg.html

Many will be free to download while actually being sharewares with time limits. Many will also see limitations like only being able to convert 50% of a file. The one at the link there covers a larger variety of formats in either direction so you can convert back and forth as well as Vista compatible and seems worth a look.

Do any of you people notice any audio sync issues with the final DVD when using any of these programs?

I've tried NeroVision Express, Video DVD Maker, DVD Flick, and a couple of others which I can't remember at the moment. By the time I get to the end of the finished DVD, the sound is out of sync with the video, sometimes up to 30 seconds difference. It's a real PITA, to be honest, and it makes the finished DVD basically useless.

I've seen that one enough times even with NeoDVD working on both dvd and vcd projects. A good deal of that depends on the quality of the file(s) you are working with.

That tends to be seen more with dvds over vcds however and is a glitch being seen at times when the separated files are being reassembled by the player. Even with a good file, burning program, and player you can still end up running into the "out of sync" frisbies you end up tossing.

Why is that? The blank media is another oops! Or you just happen to have a fussy optical drive if not something running in the background while the burn is in progress. There's a lot of variables that can see that Tom.
