Back light problems

I have a laptop that I use for work. Yesterday afternoon, the monitor went very dark and I could barely see what was on the screen.

Someone from the IT department told me the back light had gone and the only way I could use my laptop over the weekend would be to connect a cable from a computer monitor into the back of the laptop. That way I could use the monitor to see what I was doing. I tried this last night and it worked.

This morning, I tried the same thing and this is what happened:

I can see everything on the computer monitor at first when I have to enter an initial password but before it gets to the stage where I have to enter my userid and password and select the relevant domain the monitor goes black. This means I can't see anything on the laptop or on the monitor.

I've tried it again and again today and it keeps cutting out at the same time

Why would the monitor show what is on the laptop and then suddenly stop? Why did it work yesterday but not today? Is there something I might be doing differently from last night?

This is really annoying, my laptop is an integral part of my job and there are no spares at work. Any suggestions would be very welcome!!

Thanks

David

that is really wierd, the only thing i can suggest would be to hook up to a regular crt monitor, that would at least make to so you can use the computer.

Hi

Thanks for your response. Whats a CRT monitor?

I've connected the laptop up to the computer monitor at home and it worked on Friday night but since Saturday it hasn't worked. As far as I can see it, I've been setting things up in exactly the same way but it worked on Friday and it doesn't know...

Very irritating

It's VERY common for laptop's to have backlight/monitor problems. You have to realize all the wires for the LCD are cramped up in the hindge. The more it's moved, the more wear they get.

Try moving the screen back and forth. Somtimes that can clear up a short. However, if it doesn't, you might have to replace that monitor.
