Back to building another PC :)

So I've had this Dell Inspiron laptop for over a year (gasspp:eek: ) and It's just not meeting my expectations anymore. I don't need it for transportation, and it's also not handling games, photoshop, and various other designing programs very well.. So I'm determined to build a new desktop computer. I don't necessarly have a huge budget, nor a small one (around $1,200ish). It's been well over a year since i've been building computers, and keeping up with all the new parts. So after looking on Newegg.com, i'm a little lost as to where to begin. I was hoping for a start, you guys could help me pick out a motherboard/processor combo, because once those two are picked out the rest of the computer is pretty easy to find;) . This computer will be used for heavy video editing, heavy graphics design, and some pretty heavy games. I know that I will need a large hard drive with high rpm, and a real nice video card, but I don't quite know where to start with a motherboard/processor combo, for those two are the least I really know about. To narrow it down a bit, I'd preferably like to do AMD.. Any suggestions?

i dont have the links but u shuld go wit

amd 3700
1 gig corsair xms
1 36gb raptor drive
1 250-400gb 7200rpm drive
and maybe a 6800 series card. that might be 2 much with all the other things u need.

You should get a 320GB SATAII 16MB hard drive for $141 instead of those 3.

Awesome guys, this is really helping me narrow down what I want for the computer. This is what I have picked out for the computer so far (rough draft:o ):

-case : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119047
-motherboard : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131524
-processor : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103539
-ram : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144157
-harddrive : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136003
-video card : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125218

-PowerSupply : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103932

I have a cd/dvd drive, so I don't need to buy that. I will be picking out a Monitor/Screen, and keyboard for I dont have one. but what do you guys think of what I've picked out so far.. What's necessary, and what isn't. Thanks :)

I'm assuming you dont need a monitor/ keyboard in the $1,200 since the above is already $1,200.

DDR2 doesnt work with AMD. Do you really need a 320 Gb HDD because you could get something better like this if you sacrafice it:

DFI LP nF4 Ultra-D -$132.00
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ -$322.00
2 Gb G.Skill DDR500 -$199.00
eVGA 7800GT -$304.00
Maxtor 200 Gb SATA (16 Mb Cache) -$88.50
Fortron 550 W -$93.00
Coolermaster Centurion -$49.99

Total: $1,188.49
Minus $20 MIR: $1,168.49

Your right, now that I think about it, 320gb is way more than what i'd probably ever use. I definetly agree with what you picked out, I think im about to consider it. Although I'm always playing music, gotta love it:rolleyes: , do sound cards make THAT much of a difference over the onboard ones?

Since you listen to music alot it probably is worth it. You could always cut back on something and make room for it. Maybe get the value RAM from the previous setup and a cheaper motherboard.

yea, i used to use onboard... i never really noticed a difference until i got a nice $25 sound card, waited, tried using the onboard again. i switched back and it was like WTF? seriously... get a nice $25 card... it will make a difference.

also, dual core is DEFINITELY the way to go. i got it myself, o/ced it, and i couldnt be happier with out fast, efficient, and COOL it runs!... you wont regret it! also, the 3800+ is more than enough even at stock clocks to play video games!
