back to XP

I tried windows 7 and it doesn't work for me, too bulky. I did a kill disk, reformatted, and tried to reload windows XP but no luck. I have three valid XP disks, all started fine but stalled at the same point. The problem is not the computer, It loaded Linux without a hitch, but refuses to load XP or WIN2K again. Also MS refuses to validate my previously validated copy of vista. In my opinion windows XP SP3 is the best OS ever written. My win 7 is full version professional. What's happening? Is MS slamming the back door?

Where does it get stuck? Is there an error message?

Make sure you are doing a full formatt on the xp disc (could take a while) just to make sure that nothing can interfere with the install.

Was your win7 a 32 bit or 64 bit disc? If it was 64 make sure you've switched your computer back to 32 bit (in the bios - if your computer has that option)

sorry, I thought everyone knew about killdisk. It writes over everything and requires a reformat for the HD to be usable. Yes, I did completely erase everything, that's what killdisk does, and did a reformat. I get no error messages, all three completely legal copies of windows XP just stopped loading at exactly the same point midway through the setup process. Linux loaded just fine and windows 7 loaded without a hitch. Win 7 is just too bulky and slow for my computer.

So are you good now?

If your Hard Drive is SATA, that might explain it

How???

Boot your PC with the WinXP cd. When asks to install windows, choose the option. The next window will show a list of drives on your computer. Delete all the drives and create a new partition. Choose the option to install WinXP. The next windows will ask if you would like to format your disk in NTFS format and NTSF Format (quick). Do not choose the "quick" option. After the disk has been formatted it will start to copy files and then reboots. See if that will help. Maybe the problem lies with the killdisk.
