Back Up Windows 7

Computer is a emachines EL1358G-51w. I want to create a back up disk for this computer. I click on "System and Security" and then click "Back Up Computer". When I reach a certain point it says to insert a DVD. Then it ask's me "Are you sure you want to format this media"?

Then it says "Formatting will completely erase all data on the media". What does it mean erase all data on the media? Should I just click the box and make the back up disk? I just panic when the words "erase all data" shows up. Thanks!

The disk is a Maxell DVD-R and it's 4.7gb in size. It's a new one. Hope this helps. When it says it will erase all data is it just talking about the DVD itself?

So in my situation i only need to worry about the disk I use? I don't have to worry about data being deleting from my computer? So if i'm using a new DVD-R I can proceed with making a new back up disk for my Windows 7 op system? I need this info before I move forward. I just need this in case my my computer crashes and need to reload Windows 7. Thanks for your help!

A backup doesn't format over your original data, it's wanting to format the TARGET for the backup, not the SOURCE.
