Backing up files

Does anyone know of a software that backs up files that is for free?

Yes and it's built into Windows. It's called Windows Explorer and you can just copy and paste the files you want to back up. Sync Toy is great for automating this process. I kid but this is actually how I do my back ups.

The program you need depends on what you want your back up to do for you.

If you want to back up your entire system OS, Programs and data and be able to restore the whole system in a shortest amount of time a program like Acronis True Image (not free) is great.

If you just want to back up data files and your willing to take a little longer to install the OS and programs then Sync Toy (free) works great.

Just an FYI for people reading this SyncToy doesn't currently work with Windows 7 but Microsoft has posted they are working on it and it will be ready by the offical Windows 7 release date.

Windows has a built in utility called "Backup". It is not self-installed with XP Home,but it is in XP Pro.
