backing up linux ubuntu

what is the easiest way to back up my ubuntu(fiesty) ?

can i simply save the WHOLE installation to a folder/file/harddrive etc , and if so , how do i go about the boot loader(grub) as it would remain on my c drive along with my windows xp install ??

i don't know how is it in ubuntu, but i have kubuntu and there is preinstalled aplication for backing up in system menu
