Backing up photo files onto multiple DVD's

Hi,

I have over 20 GB of photos on my hard drive and to be honest, I am not now sure that the drive is still healthy after a few suspect "clicking" noises that have just come from it.

Is there anyway program that will allow me to drop the directory into it and it will then split the directory into the right amount per DVD...the lazy man approach I know?

anyway, can anyone offer me some help?

Cheers

i don't know of any that will. interesting though. Best bet your DVD burner should and likely burn dual layer. you can buy a 3 pk and each will hold about 9 gig. if you do i would also choose a slower speed for the burn process.

The only way i can think to do this is to use a tool like winrar or 7zip to compress all your folders into separate archives. You can then specify that each one be the size of a dvd, and then from there, burn away,

I would not compress. You won't save nothing but kilobytes space. then again if the compression becomes corrupted you would lose all maybe. copy as is.
Might be able and never tried using sync or briefcase in windows. have not played much with this though. thats also why a 2nd hd might be in order. i have two and one external for portability.

20GB is only 5 dvds. Manually sorting is about 1 minute or less per dvd.

Assume all the photos are in one place. In Explorer, select the first file. Pick a spot about 1/5 the way down the list. Hold Shift (do not release) and click the file. Look at the GB of files selected. You need about 4.36GB (4.37GB or 4482MB is max). If too large click further up list, if too small click down list. When done release Shift.

Move files to a temp folder. Burn on dvd and verify burn. Delete files if desired.

Repeat for remaining files.

You can modify the above to do in your burning software too.
