Hi, I took apart my monitor on a compaq c500 (15.4” WXGA High Definition BrightView Widescreen) notebook and with the cover off and connectors showing. The display was working fine and i had the cover off with all the hardware connections open. so, i disconnected one monitor connection which is two wires (one pink one white) that fits into one plastic port (main/controller board) . the screen blacked and the picture is barely visable. i tried to reconnect the same wire into its platic port and no brightness or picture came back. (Note, the comp was on and connected & w/ the cover off). what did i do? i dont know do you? anyway to fix this?

I have it on an external monitor now hoping to fix the notebook monitor or at least get some info on the situation....

Followup.....

Well, i know that i either blew out the bulb during the disconnect/reconnection of the bulb cable while the computer was on. Now i'm hoping i just blew the bulb not some other component(s) associated with the bulb and controller board...The display is there/visible just very dark... no light bulb... i took out the bulb and am gonna get another... hope i can figure out how to install it right..

If you did this while it was running, I suspect you blew the inverter. You'd probably be about as well off to find either a dead C500 on ebay and swap the screens as single components can be rather pricey.

would my screen still show a display w/ a bad inverter? i have picture, just very dark...??

I read that 95% of lighting issues are the ccfl...so i hope your wrong cause i broke the old bulb taking it out so i surely need a new one of those , then a new inverter would be my 2nd attempt... and more possibilities for the malfunction if these first 2 dont work...ill have alot of homework to do. God i hope not!

Yes, the inverter is just for the backlight. Though...if you litterly broke one of the bulbs then you probably need to replace it too :o

I am getting a bulb soon and hopefully it will light the screen i have dissembled this thing a dozen times so i have a good idea how to install the lamp. As for soldering the cable (pink/white) onto the bulb ends, i hope i can do that right..Is it okay to use the same cable or do i need a new wire(s) for the new bulb?

...So if that doesnt work ill check the inverter at the store to see it it works with a power test even though i have no idea what a "good" result is.. well i guess i can test the inverter with the new bulb right???

I will also check my lid switch the make sure its not stuck, i read it could keep the mode in sleep and not trigger ccfl startup...

but if these dont work i may have blown something in the motherboard oh noo ..God i hope not...
& What is the round silver battery for, thats on the motherboard near my wifi and ram..?

Thanx for your help/advice...ill post replies soon after i get the new gadjets..!
