Backup Drives

I plan to buy a 1TB laptop-size drive and put it into an enclosure to make a backup drive for my gaming pc, but I have one question:
Will Windows allow me to backup to an SSD drive or does it NEED to be an HDD?

Are you sure 1TB is enough? The price difference between 1TB and 1.5-2TB is not very much. I find you can usually buy a pre-built USB external drive for cheaper than a standard hard drive and and enclosure as well.

You can backup to an SSD in an external enclosure, but why do you want to? It would need to be USB 3.0 to take advantage of those speeds, and for a backup drive you typically don't need anything that fast.

I have a 1TB drive in my computer which contains the files that I want backed up, and I have a 500GB USB drive but I have 650GB or so of crap to back up so it won't work. 1TB will be plenty, I just don't know which drive will be the most reliable for me.

Your main drive should be more reliable. If you're thinking about getting an SSD, buy one for your PC and use the HDD as your backup. If the backup fails, it's not the end of the world as you can format and start again.
