Well, I would like the four PCs in my house (1 desktop + 3 laptops) to be able do backups regularly to a network disk. Now, I know what stuff to get, but I'd like to know the following:
When one or more of the laptops are travelling and connected to the internet, is it possible that they back-up over the internet to the network disk inside my hous EXACTLY the same way as if they were connected to it through our LAN? If so, do I need an Ethernet disk SUPPORTING FTP (since I guess FTP would be the most logical choice)? Link to NewEgg product? Also, how much space do you recon would be needed? The desktop has the storage in my sig, and all the laptops have no more than 60 Gigs each, but since they wouldn't be backing up the WHOLE disk, how much?
If I estimate half of each disk will be backed up, this gives me:
240 / 2 = 120
(60*3) / 2 = 90
120 + 90 = 210
But if I estimate three quarters of each disk will be backed up, this gives:
(240 * 3) / 4 = 180
((60 * 3) * 3) / 4 = 135
180 + 135 = 315
Worst case scenario:
240 + (60 * 3) = 420 Gigs LOL
So is 300 Gigs good?
