I built a system with ASUS P8 B75-M mobo and Xeon E3 1230 V2 processor, Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4GB. I did check ASUS web site to verify mobo is compatible with this processor.
Initially, there was no video from VGA or DVI ports and this problem is occurring prior to installing an operating system. I switched RAM with another working RAM (same type) but did not help. I replaced the cpu with an Intel i3 3240 and now got video thru only the DVI port, but after multiple restarts and I don't remember what else I did, the VGA port suddenly started working.
When I installed the Xeon into another identical working system (which had a working i3 3240) there again was no video from either port. But when I put the original i3 3240 back the system would not boot up but gave an error "Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". The HDD was listed as the primary boot device since Windows was installed.
Any way, I was able to reinstall Windows 7 Pro and that previously good system is again working. But with my new build, I keep getting error “ Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key” whether the HDD (WD blue) is installed or not. But also I was getting an error to go into setup and recover Bios.
I removed the battery for over an hour, move jumper to clear RTC (from pins 1-2 to 2-3, waited , then back to 1-2). I have an Asus DVD drive which is being detected. I also placed a new battery.
When I had the HDD connected and tried to run the Windows 7 Pro installation, oddly it only showed one partition (0), whereas with a previous build it shows two, and I install to the main partition 1. Seems strange it was not listing two partitions as with my previous 2 builds with this board.
This is only my 3rd build so I'm still a confused newbie I guess. Also, when I get into the Bios, I see the DVD listed, and also HDD if I have it connected.
I have read about flashing the Bios, but this looks like a complicated procedure, and the ASUS website list a number of Bios downloads which appears confusing as to which one I would need anyway.
When I try to set the Date from 2009 to 2014 it reverts back to 2009 the moment I click on the Time field to set it.
My theory is that the Xeon processor is bad, and it damaged the Bios of the motherboard. Any help is much appreciated before I contact sellers to return these items. (Amazon and Newegg). Thanks!!
