Bandwidth/Speed mis-conception...?

I'm noticing in alot of people's signatures that they are rating the speed of their video cards in GHz just like a prcessor.

EX: 6600GT 530MHz/650MHz = 1.1GHz :P

OK, you can add...but since when did we start adding Core clock speed with Memory clock speed to get some kind of general GHz speed for our video cards? I mean it's like combining CPU speed with RAM speed speed and saying my PC is in fact 2.0GHz + 433MHz DDR = 2.4GHZ!!1!1!!1:P

Am I missing something here?

The its ddr ram remember, so the mhz gets doubled, which will turn it to Ghz ;) i think.......

Well yah that makes sense, 600MHz DDR would get 1.2GHz total. But the Core speed has nothing to do with that. And If it's 600MHz DDR, how is 1.2GHz total bus speed more impressive? Doubling the 600 to 1200 is implied with it being DDR.

Well I also figured it was because of DDR so it gets doubled. So they can't add :P. Although now you point out the adding of core with mem I no longer know.
