Im working on a site that is basicly like youtube on a smaller scale with limitations as to what you can upload.

We have 1 server and are bata testing right now. Can anyone give a general idea of what probems I face when I go to launch? What are the minimum requirements I would need for the sever and bandwith for say 1000 hits at one time?

For the site it's self you wouldn't need a whole lot to handle that many hits, 1.5megabit up would probably be sufficient. Now for the streaming video portion of the site you'll need serious bandwidth, if you're talking about having 1000 users watching video all at once you'll need an insane amount of bandwidth, I wouldn't even know where to guess there. You'd really need several servers to handle that as well. I'm thinking you're talking about just people looking around the site and getting 1000 file hits at a time in which case a decent dual or quad core pc with a good connection to the internet should be sufficient.

1000 users x 2 videos avg each x 40mb a video = 80GB

If that's 1000 viewing all at once, that is 80GB for what - 30 minutes?

1000 videos x 35 mb each = 35 GB;
10,000 videos - 350GB;

That covers transfer volume but not the speed of the connection needed to support said server... I'm thinking something fiber will be what you'll have to go with, business class obviously if you want unmetered bandwidth.
