Bang for your buck...

I just graduated high school. I will be an entering freshmen and I am proficient with Windows. I know all the backdoors and feel really comfortable with it, but for some reason I really want a Mac. I have about 1300->1400 dollars and know about that student discount. But do I really want to spend that much money for that much specs? Is it worth it, if not why? and what other option? If I buy the Mac it will be the black Macbook Specs. Thanks for any help or advice!

I've never used a mac, but my sister just bought one. She's used windows all her life, and she says it's not that hard to learn. If your good with windows I'd just stay with it. Vista is much better now they have th SP1 out for it, and just make sure your laptop has at least 2GB of RAM.

Totally agree - mac os isn't that hard and has some nice features!

Macs are great!! all the time they are running well(as they usually do of course) BUT.... when they go wrong- they can be VERY expensive!!!!

As for usage, any OS with a GUI is easy to use, it's just all down to experience:)

I would stick with Windows since that is what most of the world uses. If you get a Mac then you may find yourself feeling like you are on an island all alone trying to convince the rest of the world they need a Mac.

On the other hand ....don't discount LINUX as an alternative. When it comes to freely developed softwares they really do seem to be coming on strong!!

Hackintosh anyone?

What about buying the bigger PC and putting hackintosh in it? Any ideas? Or just go straight PC or Mac?
