Bar code scanner connection

Hello,

I am working with a Metrologic, Orbit model MS7120 wedge scanner.
It’s being used to scan membership cards in a fitness club.
Recently some new Dell computers were purchased.
Unfortunately the new systems do not have PS/2 keyboard and
mouse ports, only USB. I called Dell and they are sending
a PS/2 to USB converter. The make and model of the converter
is a Tripp-lite Model B015-000 adaptor

Will this be enough to allow proper operation of a
scanner on a USB port? If not then what device do you recommend?
Also, which drivers and software do I need to install to ensure
correct operation on a USB port? They have three
different types of software for this model.

But I noticed on another page that Metrologic has for
download a USB emulation driver. They show one for both
uni-directional and bi-directional support. Will I need one
of these also for correct operation?

Thank You.

Have you gotten the old drivers to install on the new machines? I imagine they are Vista machines, which is why I'm asking if you are having problems... And most of the time with many peripherals the PS/2 to USB converter is all that you really need to ensure proper operation of the device.

Thanks for the reply,

I didn’t attempt to install drivers because I didn’t even have a way
of connecting the scanner. I’m simply not sure whether a converter
was going to be enough for proper connection and operation. I
will be going back later this week in an attempt to finish the job
and I simply wanted to be prepared.

No, they are windows XP machines. We told them we didnt want Vista.

I was concerned because what I’ve heard about the converters
wasn’t all good.

Well, first off, it's very good in your situation that you don't have Vista on that computer. With that converter and XP on the machine, you should be good to go...
