hey guys... im trying to build a basic setup for as little as possible with out suffering quality.... this will go into my car and probly stay there for the rest of its life...(i use it to tune my ecu and monitor my engine) i have a friend who does metal work (sheetmetal) so we will use that for a case...

but i need a basic setup to run 2 programs and thats it... for the rest of its life..

its hard to ask this question because im still learning...

i just need a basic setup that can run something like photoshop with out being laggy..... no sound card... basic video card... at lease one USB port... and a small mother board.... and thats it... if anybody can help me on what parts i need appreciate it.. thanks for any replys...

well...i guess you'll want to get a micro atx motherboard. Most motherboard come with onboard sound and when i had 512mb of ram it ran photoshop ok. Basic videocard...6200? usually motherboards comes with 4 usbs in the back so thats no problem.

what kind of car do you have? Why not get a dynotune or an SCT chip if they make it for your car? I have a 4.2l v6 turbo'd v6 mustang and I have 3 programs running on my sct chip, each for different levels of boost I run, the cost was like 350 for the chip and the dyno tunes.

is just for a turbo charged nissan 240sx... i autocross alot...

the daughter board i will get has flash memory... no more EPROM chipping..... when i want to retune i can just re flash it right there....

also... i have consolt... so i can monitor my whole operating engine condition with out a whole cluster of guages... so there is 2 programs ill run..... the consolt for monitoring and rom tuning program....

the consolt software will allow me to go back 30 minutes from a WOT to see if anything happend..(like knock... lean condition.... ect..) so when i do blow my motor ill know what happend....

thanks for the reply liuliuboy

How will you protect this equipemnt? PC hardware doesn't hold up to vibrations very well, simply moving your computer from the desk to the floor can possibly damage it.

you know that with the x-cal 2 SCT chip you can flash on the spot. The guy I bought mine from will write a custom program if you ever change anything such as cams, p/p intakes, etc and you can flash it right there on the spot. I've done it a couple of times when I ran 16+ psi boost and then managed to destroy one of my rockers.
