basic help!

Hi!

I just bought a second hand computer not really knowing what its specifications were (i know...dumb) so I was wondering now if any of you could help me figure out how powerful it is in terms of processor etc because it is running very slow but I am not sure why.

When I check the system properties, under computer it says:
VIA SAMUEL 2
599 MHz, 480 MB of RAM

Thank you so much for helping a poor computer illiterate soul!
 
It'll be alright for the internet, email, wordprocessing type of stuff but you cant really play many games on it.
 
oh I wouldnt even dare to try to play games with this thing! :eek:

I havent done anything of that sort though, but even just starting up and using the web all the simplest things take forever I wonder if there might be a problem with it...is it really that bad?
is it a question of processor or memory or what? :confused:
 
Shouldnt be that slow. My daughters hand me down computer is 550mhz and 256mb RAM. She can play the little games on nickelodeon and cartoonnetwork without any kind of lag or anything. Are you using dial up or a cable modem?
 
When you purchased the PC did it come with the Operating system already installed and used? Have you checked it for virus's/spyware?
