Basic Netowrk Setup

I am trying to setup a home network. I have my desktop, a media PC, my wife's laptop, and a work laptop. Right now I have everything going into my router (Linksys WRT54G) the laptops are wireless, the other 2 computers are wired. Everything is able to share an internet connection, but I cannot share files between the computers.

I have tried to follow the Windows tutorial to set up a network to share files, but so far have been unsuccessful. I was able to see the media computer from my desktop, but could not access it, I get a message that I do not have the proper privileges to access the computer.

Can anyone share a simple step by step process to get a network running, or even a link to an on-line instruction?

Thanks for your help on this.

Basic File Sharing

Make sure you are all in the same workgroup and, on the files you want to share, Properties>Sharing> radio "Share this folder" > Permissions > Check "Total Control"

Hey friend its very easy to make a new network connection ..go to control pannal and there you found a network choice ,click on that and then you will get some properties their according to your need fill then in to forwarded order,,then your network connection will surly works.

Just share a common drive on a PC you can all get to, and map to it with each PC. Simple way out of it.

Right Click my computyer, and select Map Network Drive. Select a drive letter, and then brows to the other PC's... OR type in their name or IP. Example \\computername \\192.168.2.1(localIP) Then click finish.

Thanks, I now can access other folders, but I can't print from each computer. I have an HP 6110 printer/scanner connected via USB into my desktop that I would like to be able to use from my other computers. I know the print function can be used across the network, can I retain the scan function as well, or would I have to scan to a shared folder on the desktop, then access that folder remotely?
