Basic Specs for Programming

Hi there, can you please help me with a quick opinion about the basic specs for a laptop used primarily for programming. I'm looking for one ultra-portable but I don't know how much processor and memory capacity I can exchange for portability.

I use as OS Ubuntu 10.10 and I have mostly used C/C++, HTML, JAVA, PHP, MySQL, APACHE and I would like to start learning some C#, Python and Perl. But I don't know what is the most basic specs to be able to have a fast computer that can handle all this programming languages and database managers.

Thank you for your help.

My favorite is the Asus U36JC-A1. 13.3". Worlds thinest standard voltage notebook, i5 CPU. 8+ hrs batt life. Discrete and onboard graphics.

What do you think about the ThinkPad x201? I think it is pretty awesome... And ThinkPad is a very good brand of laptops...

why not try an aleinware laptop, i know theyre not that portable but theyre super powerfull and well ventilated.
theyre also a bit pricy.

You must only be talking about the 11X? Yes they have there appeal. But I think I recommended a much better system overall. And I think his ThinkPad is much better for usage.

At the end of the day the AlienWare is the best Gaming netbook but it still is a netbook.

Don't forget the keyboard. You will want a high quality one since you will be doing a lot of typing. (Gamers tend to not care about the keyboard as much.)

how about the toshiba Satellite M645-S4080
got i5, 6 gigs ddr3 ram,GeForce GT 330M, 640gb, 14 inch screen and weighs 5.5 pounds

If you are only programming then you should'nt need anything super powerful/Pricey. Alien-Ware is out..

Id get something a few years old to save money, that you know gonna keep chuggin along 1-2gb ram for holding larger files in memory (if you do that with programming).

Also, you might want to consider business laptops / ultra portables. They usually are a little bit weaker and cost more. But, they have better build quality, better keyboards, matte screen options, and often better customer support.
