Battlefield 2 (not responding) help!

Okay for some reason, sometimes when I try to connect to my account online, it doesn't move. The part where you pick a account then log on. Then the Connecting window pops up, with the little "2" icon spinning. Well sometimes that takes forever, so I hit Alt Ctrl Delete, then go to task manager, and under Battlefield 2 it says "not responding" Is there a reason why it wouldn't be responding? Do I need more memory? does it have anything to do with the video card at all?

I have a Pentium D 3.0 Ghz, 1GB ram, ATI X300SE pci-express card
 
I have exactly the same problem but it hardly happens anymore since I upgraded from 512MB RAM to 1024MB. I still have lots of erroros with the game though such as crashing to desktop for no reason etc.
