Posted other threads on here about deleting files, web pages ect, so i won't go into detail.
Here's a quest for you all:

Google Desktop can find alot of recently visited web pages, photo's, listened to music ect, as we all know.
I've tried various app's to 'shred' these in an attempt to out do Google Desktop, but to no avail.
I challenge you all to find one, that does!!!!!

I've tried:

Deleting browser history from IE7

Disk Clean Up from windows

Crap Cleaner

Spybot's secure shredder

And a couple of others...

Post here, when you have found one, i tell you, it's not easy, is Google Desktop unbeatable?

Google Desktop stores all its information into an index file. So despite whether you delete your browsing history from your browser, it has already gone ahead and stored it into an index. At least, that's my understanding of how it works.

Do you or anyone else know how to safely get rid of these 'index files' ?
There MUST be a way of protecting your privacy from a simple prog such as Google Desktop.

COMPUTER FORUM PEOPLE - I challenge YOU ALL.

If you don't want people to use the search on your computer just right click the Google Desktop icons and hit Lock Search...
 
Option 1. Uninstall Google Desktop Search and Reinstall

Option 2. Selectively remove items from Google cache

Option 3. Delete Google Desktop Search Index files

> Exit Google Desktop and Open Registry editor.
> Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Desktop
> In the right-hand pane, "data_dir" contains the location of the Google Desktop index.
> Open that folder in Windows Explorer and delete it.
> This technique may require your to reinstall GDS.

Option 4. Move Google Desktop index to a different location

> Exit Google Desktop and Open Registry editor.
> Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Desktop
> In the right-hand pane, "data_dir" contains the location of the Google Desktop index.
> Open that folder in Windows Explorer and move the entire folder to a different drive.
>Change the "data_dir" value to reflect the new location of the Google Desktop index.
>Exit the Registry editor and Restart Google Desktop search.

Thanks, tried that, all ok, untill i uninstall google, then reinstall it. Just what someone who bought my pc from me could do.
It then finds them all again, looks like i will have to sell the pc with a new hdd.
Unless anyone else knows of some software that can saftely remove these 'index' files, but leaving the pc in perfect working order, with all applications working.
 
If your selling your computer, I would actually recommed completely wiping the hard drive and reinstalling all the programs.
 
What's so bad about someone buying your computer and knowing what sites you visited and what applications you had?
