Been playing around with Ubuntu

I've finally got Gutsy Gibbon all customized to my liking, and have got XP Pro SP2 going flawlessly through VirtualBox (for Flash CS3, Photoshop CS3, etc) and am thinking about trying out OSx86 in VirtualBox.

Has anyone here tried this before? .. either through VirtualBox, or a clean install.

I've heard some good things about it, and that it's still pretty buggy.. but I'm curious, and would like to try it.

(Useful) Input?.

who is buggy, virtual box ? let me wish you luck in running OSX 86 in vm you will need it cause it will never run.
it probably will but will suck bad, OSX 86 will need 1GB or above of physical ram, and that will only mean degradation in performance of your real PC.
i've tried x86 in vmware on 512mb and that wasn't good at all.
but then again it's illegal to talk about x86, good luck mate

I have 2GB of RAM installed.. and another 2GB which I can install, if need be..

I've read of people running it under VirtualBox, and only running into the normal errors that OSx86 causes. I'm sure it couldn't be that bad, even if it mucked up during install, I could remove the virtual patition, or re-install Ubuntu.. if it came to that.

As for it being illegal, I haven't read the Apple TOS for OSx, but I do intend to own a license before proceeding with the installation.. which should circumvent any of that b.s.. after all, I didn't ask where I could download the latest illegal copy of OSx86, I simply asked if anyone had real experience using it through VirtualBox..

Edit: I didn't mean that VirtualBox was buggy, in my first post.. I was referring to OSx86.

osx x86 has no license, it's plain illegal to have a copy of it or even using it.
x86 it's just a plain hacked copy of osx Tiger
i would answer most of your questions (x86) but i'd be bending the rules !!

cheers mate

Correct, OSx86 has no license.

OSx does, however, have a license.. and OSx86 is OSx with patches applied that allow it to work on a PC.

If it's truely against the rules to talk about it here, someone go ahead and close this.. but it's kind of sad that a computer forum can't talk about patches that allow software to work on an architecture it wasn't intended to run on.

If you wouldn't mind, I have many questions.. if you have the time, and are willing, would you chat about OSx86 elsewhere?

In Apple's EULA of OS X, it clearly states that when purchasing a license to OS X you are allowed to install it on 1 Apple branded computer. So, yes it is completely illegal and breaks the EULA, and for starters to even get OS X to load on a non Apple rig, someone had to hack around the TPM, which is also illegal.

Thanks for the heads up, although you probably could have been less cocky about it :)

Piracy Police - feel free to close my thread now, my questions will be answered where they're allowed.

PS: Really? Do they mean 1 Apple branded computer at a time, or forever? I would hope you could move it to a new computer should you choose to..

I don't see how I was being cocky. You are forgetting that people who own and run this forum can be held liable for illegal activities, which is why it is banned from discussion here.

Also, yes, it is one apple branded computer at a time. If you uninstall it from one Mac you can transfer it to another.

Oh, sorry.. maybe I came off as a jerk.. occasionally I come across people who reply to my posts (not just here, mostly other forums, actually) only to start trouble.. you came off as one of those people. No worries now, I suppose.

As for talking about OSx86, in the United States (where I reside, and I assume this website/server does as well) free speech protects discussing such things.. now, if we were exchanging links to illegal software, that'd be a whole different story... and, before the replies start pooring in, I'm talking in regards to this topic, not cracking/patching/piracy in general.

As the owner of three .com's, two of which are forums, I can say, with certainty, that nobody is going to jail for replying to a couple of questions about a patched OS.

Anyways, thanks for the reply.. useless (in regards to the topic!) or not, it was more than I expected :)

PS: Just noting that my post should not be taken out of context.. it's in no way intended to be disrespectful towards you, or anyone.

No worries. I just know that with today's organizations like the RIAA and the MPAA that are going around suing the crap out of people, its better to just not talk about it.

Also, freedom of speech is actually pretty subjective. I could explain to you about the anarchist cook book, then lead you to it, and then you could do something very bad, and I could very well be held liable for it. Depends on what happens in court in all honesty.

And I am no tight wad. I tried OS X x86, and compared to actually running OS X on a Mac it stinks. You will be disappointed most likely. If you really want OS X, I suggest you use Linux with an OS X gui over top of it, or you look into buying a cheap mac off of ebay.

Honestly, I only wanted to try OSx86 because I could.. I've already got a nice looking mac theme installed, but can't figure out where to get that mac doc from?

Would you know where to get it? The mac doc that is, not OSx86.

Edit: Nevermind, got it :)
