when i startup my computer it start beep when booting its 1 long beep followed by 3 short beeps. then nothing else happens i dont know what to can anyone help me?

i might be mistaken but this is either pointing to a memory error or graphics card error. try removing the ram and the graphics card and try reseating them securely on the motherboard, making sure that the system is fully powered down before beginning.

Uh .... you should loook into that ... ram doesnt simply "burn out" :)

I'm having a similar "beep" problem only my beep is one short beep. I recently swapped cases and in the process added 1gig of geil ram pc3200 (2X512) to replace 512m (2x256) of pny pc2700 ram. I also added a sapphire "atlantis" radeon 9600XT to replace an XFX GeForce FX5700. Eversince doing so, I've had game crashes while running "world of warcraft" and have had a few system reboots (3 in about a day and a half). I tried re-inserting the replacement ram and video card but the beep still occured. I also put in the old ram and video card and it still beeped. I clicked on the previous link for beep codes and according to the codes for AMI bios, I have a dram refresh failure. It never beeped at all prior to switching cases, and now it beeps for both the new and old ram. Any thoughts? As extremely far fetched as it sounds, Could it possible be that a computer case would cause a beep to occur?

Itel P4 2.4 ghz
AsRock P4V88 mobo
Old RAM: PNY PC2700 256x2
New Ram: Geil PC 3200 512x2
Old VC: XFX GeForce FX 5700
New VC: Sapphire Radeon "atlantis" 9600XT
Old case: MAXTOP Signature CSX-147K2F NO PS Gray Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
New Case: AeroCool JETMASTER JR SS Silver SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
(in case it helps)

dunno about your problem gwakkawakka but i dont think its the case. im not all that smart when it comes to hardware but you could try formatting your disk and then restoring your computer to the exact state it was before the beep and then reinstall your os

as for praetor dunno really what happened to my ram but it certainly doesnt look good. it has this little spot on the side where it connects to your computer and thats all black like its burned out

wow... that must have smelt bad. thats definately not a good sign.
there must have been some serious amount of power going through there to cause that.
the only thing that i could think that would cause somthing like that would be a short circuit with electrical arcing at that point.

dont really know what you mean by that but it was completely clean no rubbish that could conduct electricity or a little exposed wire that could do it. anyway to be sure i changed my (voeding) that box that takes care of the power thing :P

what i meant in the previous post was that in order to cause burning at the point there would have been a large build up of heat either caused by high current or electrical sparks.
as long as all the contacts are clean the replacement should be fine, even though there has been no conclusion as to what caused the problem initially.

ohw like that well i was thinking about that too but it was clean more or less. it wasnt all that filthy so the only thing i can think of that the contacts are broke or something but as long as i dont use it i should be fine. i still have 2 left and thats all i need

yeah, i would steer clear of that slot too, just to play it safe. i have a problem on my system where if i use the second slot, the ram will die after a couple of weeks. which means my only upgrade path is a single 1gb stick of ram. i know the processor is causing the problem but i cant afford a new cpu right now, plus i dont have to wait that long for a new batch of technology to come out; so i'm just gonna keep waiting until then.

yeah my old mobo didnt like the 4x512 setup it would screw up the video card and not display anything. a quickfix for that was to upgrade my mobo.
