I've just purchased a Belkin modem/router. It's all configured allright but sometimes it drops internet connection and goes to local only. I am using a wire and my dad is on wireless downstairs. It's really bad when playing online since you get dosconnected :/

Please help.

THX!

so is it the wireless that gets disconnected, or both the wireless and wired?
is it only when you are playing a game or also surfing the net.
is this cable or dsl. Might be exceeding the bandwith of your ISPs network. We here have telecomutters that have residential cable that get dropped, had to upgrade to business. If you can not figure it out why you are getting dropped call your isp's tech support...that's what they are there for.

It's DSL. It's only the wired connection that drops out. I am using ver good ISP, fast.co.uk, Rated 1 in UK. Yesterday it was dropping while I was playing and then I stopped to see what's happening and it kept on disconnecting while in Windows.

You might also try simply going and returning the router and exchanging it for a new one. Could have a lemon!

Could have a bad cable too, also try the different ports on the router. The one your cable is plugged into could be bad, but the rest might work.

Btw, just the wired connection drops, the wireless doesn't?

I founf out the solution, I hope.

It's the "Dial on Demand"

It was ticked, so when I wasnt using the connection the router just was disconnecting me to save power????or something, now I hop it's fixed.

If it's dial-up, it does it so your not burning up hours (if your paying x amount of hours per month) staying connected while your not using it. If your on a broadband connection, should be a setting that you can save to keep it connected.
