Motherboard Model Basswood3G
Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista

500w psu

Okay so now here is the problem. Everytime i try to play videogames that require some juice from my system, i lag more then i would of with my old computer. I spoke to my friend and he told me download 3d mark 06 these are my result: My score was 4608

Main Test Results

3DMark Score 4608 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 1844 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 1572 Marks

CPU Score 3335 Marks

Detailed Test Results

Graphics Tests
1 - Return to Proxycon 14.482 FPS

2 - Firefly Forest 16.249 FPS

CPU Tests
CPU1 - Red Valley 1.103 FPS

CPU2 - Red Valley 1.614 FPS

HDR Tests
1 - Canyon Flight (SM 3.0) 13.865 FPS

2 - Deep Freeze (SM 3.0) 17.583 FPS

Now i know nothing about computer but something tells me that this isnt very good. Considering the system i have and how new it is id ont know why im scoring so low or why i run F.e.a.r so poorly. Can somone please lend me some advice or let me know if this is good, or just plain horrible.

Thanks

that is worse than mine. overclock your graphics card or update to the latest driver. I heard if you use vista, it get the score lower! I got 5750 with 2485 cpu score when I overclocked my cpu and gpu. you could hit 6000~6500 with that cpu. which brand graphics card did you buy and what is the speed?

i did do my research i was told that the 8600gt was actually a pretty good card and the only card higher was the 8800 but thats to expensive for me, my other games ran better on my ati x800xl i dont know how to fix this, and im pretty sure i got the updated nvidia drivers, also i did buy a new psu because this unti only had 300w and i knew that the 8600gt needs at least 400, so i bought a 500

Would any of you have any words of wisdom for me lol. I really dont know computers to well i thought i was getting a pretty good card to run certain games but i seem to be having some serious issues

i am asking you again. what brand 8600 did you buy and what version of operating system are you running?

the 7800, 7900 and i think the ati's above a x1600? are all better than the 8600gt. im not so sure about the ati cards, dont know them to well, but in all benchmark and tests the 7800 and 7900 cards perform better. And they are about the same price if not cheaper

Opps i am sorry, missed that. At the moment i am running Vista and i bought an ASUS EN8600gt

if this is your graphics card, the scores are very reasonable. it is running at 540mhz, which is pretty slow without any overclock. Mine ran 5750 with cpu score of 2485 and video card scores were 2400/2100 while the memory speed was overclocked to 711mhz (it was stock 620mhz). Also you have to put in the fact that vista takes away some performance on 3dmark06 tests. So far, your system is perfectly fine.

I run a Core 2 duo e6550 2.3 @ 2.6, 2 gigs of pc4200 memory in dual channel, an MSI P6NSLI motherboard, 550 watt psu, and 1 8600 gt XXX edition 256mb 620mhz clock. I scored a 5160. He's running a quad core and got a lower score and from what it looks like hes got two video cards, but it isn't running in sli mode? He's also running dx10 where I am running 9.0c, because I'm using xp. Mayhaps me running xp gave me a boost in scores, but it looks like his should have scored at or above mine considering he is running a quad core. Am I wrong?

He isn't using two GPU's the second one is the drivers... I would put it down to Vista, but that's just my opinion. I think the 8600 is a good card, it should be able to play most games on high settings, have you tried playing any games or just benchmarking?
