what is benchmarking? i have seen it mentioned twice i this forum within the last five minutes and i have no idea what it is. could someone please explain?
 
its a series tests you run that measure somethings performance, if you google benchmark you will probably get several billion hits :)

I thought what I posted was pretty straight forward...

in the case of benchmarking your computer replace 'something' with 'computer.' The benchmark will give you a number that indicates your computers performance score.
