Best 23" Monitor - Just broken mine!

Hi, I'm looking for the best 23" monitor I can buy for around £125. I did have the Acer H236HL which was brilliant, however it seems the price has risen up to £150 which is a little over budget for me.

I mainly use the monitor for graphic design work however do play games like Football Manager, Age of Empires, nothing too demanding.

On a side note, is it possible to get my monitor fixed for cheaper? It fell forward onto the screen and looks cracked underneath, lines just move across the screen now. If it is possible to get it fixed, how would I go about doing so? Please excuse my reflection on the photo, thanks.

I'm based in the UK too if that helps. Popular sites to buy here are eBuyer, PC World etc. Oh, it might be worth noting the monitor still connects to the PC fine it's just I unplugged the monitor, hence it displaying "cable not connected", thanks.

Sorry bud that monitor is gone, it looks like there is physical damage to the display panel itself, any pixel correction software has no chance sorting that out :(

Maybe wait until the H236HL goes on sale? I just got mine, it's pretty awesome ;) If you can't wait, just get the best rated 1080p 23 inch monitor. They are all very similar.

Thanks for the reply, shame, I've only had it 4 months. Was taking the HDMI cable at the back, all it did is fall forward and this happened :(.

I would wait however I go back to Uni on the 16th and I'll need it by then unfortunately.

EDIT - Fount these, any idea which is best? Not too clued up on all the specs to be fair.

I highly recommend Iiyama. I love my 24" Iiyama ProLite E2409HDS. This monitor isn't on sale anymore (it's nearly 3 years old), but you can't buy its successor from Novatech (who are a very good store) as well as other Iiyama monitors.

I'd look at these:

All 1920x1080 which is the res you want for 24".

I like Iiyama because they're well-priced, well-specced and the colours look great on them.

Novatech is a great retailer too. Quite often you'll select free delivery and you'll get it next day. Good customer service too.

I wholeheartedly recommend them. :good:

Thanks, I'll take a look!

I have a hard time recomending a monitor like that over something by Acer, Dell, or Asus for the same price.

ZYX, that LG actually looks really decent for the price. I would get that.

Yeah think I'll go for that, it's £119 on Amazon and they've given me a prime trial so will be here Monday. Thanks for the help people :D.

Don't know if you have purchased or not but I should be getting a pair of these LG monitors tomorrow from Novatech http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/monitors/22inchmonitors/22ea53vq.html (they're not for me, they're for an organisation who I am doing a build for).

Look quite nice - IPS, 22", 1920x1080 for £110.

I'll let you know what they're like, but after having good first-hand experience with Iiyama, they'll always be the ones I recommend first. I'll just say I do photo editing and web design on my 24" Iiyama and it's great. :good:

Posting on my phone so don't know the expect specs from the monitor I've purchased but the one you linked is identical to mine in looks so I'd expect the specs to similar, mines 23". I think I posted a link a few posts ago. Mines due to arrive tomorrow morning.

Hi there,

I got those LG monitors today to test. If you've bought the same model as I've got here, you're going to be very satisfied I think. They look absolutely gorgeous and the colour is fantastic (running on DVI, not tweaked any settings).

Too bad I can't keep these monitors because they're actually for a local organisation, but for the price they're great. You'll love yours if you've bought the same one I have here. :good:

Hi, mine arrived today too. Mines the exact same just a little bigger at 23".

The colours don't seem as vivid as my last monitor but that may be due to the matte finish compared to the glossy screen I had before? Only other problem is the stand is a little wobbly and the screen shakes when I use my keyboard, even as lightly as possible. Won't be as much of a problem when I use get back to using my desk at Uni next week.

All in all, still an excellent monitor and will do the job for me. Would you recommend using a DVI instead of a HDMI connection or does it not matter too much? Thanks.

DVI and HDMI are very similar, I like HDMI better because the cables are less bulky and don't require screws.

Yeah DVI and HDMI produce the same image quality. The difference is the cable, as stated, and the fact HDMI can carry audio. Not sure if these monitors have speakers anyway. :)

You're right about the screen wobbling a bit - I've noticed this too. Also, because of the way you plug the cables in (they go outwards rather than downwards), this monitor may not fit some VESA mounts.

But all in all, I'm pleased with these monitors too. The image quality is good with the colours well-saturated and my 22" displays which I have here for review look sharp indeed. For £110, I think it's a good deal. :good:
