Asides fan boys taking their sides, I need real constructive comments.
I read comments on both, so far the NVIDIA had more "editing" comments than the ATI... that's about it.

Anyone own one of these? Does it heat a lot? Are the fans noisy? Any troubles?
Thanks. :)

I own an 8600GTS and it runs normal temps, around 60-70c under load,
and the fan is not noisy at all.

I wouldn't know if it's a good budget card for HD Video rendering though.

I just play games with it.

Neither would be excellent editing cards, plus, the CPU plays a much bigger part in video editing than the video card. Despite what many people initially think.

Out of the two, I'd go for the 8600.

Thanks guys. This isn't for my main workstation. But I'm taking my 3870 512mb and putting it into my new i7 build.

I just need a decent budget card to keep my old computer useful. :)

Yup this dude is right, i was a little suprised when i found this out, but its true, its mainly you cpu and ram that affects the preformance.

The 4650 is a newer card, so it will be more effecient that the 8600, but the 8600 is still a little more powerful, but only by the slightest bit, but if i had a psu that could handle either of these cards, i would go 8600, if i was limited, then i would NO DOUBT go with the 4650, it is one of the most power effecient cards out there.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter which card you pick as video editing is more CPU dependant.

So, if they're both the same price. Go for the one that have that extra kick for gaming (if you ever do any?). So, like people have said, go for the 8600. ;)
