Best AMD CPU?

I need a new CPu for my AMD system. I currently have a very sluggish 4600+ @ 2.4GHZ. I want a CPU that will hit 3.0GHZ for a steal. Ive looked through some CPUs and the 5000+ BE edition is supposedly faster then a 6000+ if its OC'd. Is it worth getting it or should I just get a 5600+ and OC that, or maybe a 6400+ and OC that? I will also need a CPU since I plan to OC, can someone link a good one? I dont mind the price since I can always use it on my next system.

For a Socket AM2 board the 6400+ X2 dual is the fastest stock model listed as 3.2ghz. Newegg was out of stock when ordering here seeing the 6000+ X2 3ghz model instead while lately seeing the 6400+ listed again.

The 6000+ X2 stock actually runs at 3.104ghz on the Asus M2N-E board here. If you are going to spend the money anyways why not see 3+ghz without fuss and worry about higher cpu temps. Plus there's still some oc room while not as great for a 6000+.

For dual core i'd get the 5000+ BE...
I've got it, it runs at 3.2ghz no issues, and i got it to 3333mhz...
I haven't really heard of the OC potential of the 6400+, but my 5000+ beats a stock 6400+
If you want to go quad core, i'd suggest the 9950 BE 125w
Just double the power, and should oc about as well as the 5000+ BE.

If you want to go intel, i'd really suggest that route right now. the q6600 is a better budget choice.
Also, the cpu i have doesn't bottleneck my gpu, it runs games full, with the exception of crysis, where a better cpu would help, but i'd seriously go Intel.

Running stock the 9950 and the Q6600 is pretty much equal. The Q6600 was faster than the 9850 but the extra 100 helped the 9950. Now the Q6600 will overclock better than the 9950.

I,ve installed 3 9850s and got both to 3ghz. pretty easy but had to lay on the voltage to get above that, didnt want to push them to much, selling them. One was on the same board you have. But like said the Q6600 will overclock better, but at stock the 9950 and the Q6600 is pretty much equal.

I dont really want to spend that much money on a CPU. I plan on selling this comp after the final CPU upgrade when im done with it. I will choose Intel for my next build since AMD is waay behind them when OC applies.

If you want to save money get the X2 5400BE. The 90nm. X2 4600 didnt overclock all that well. The one I still have you had to give it 1.4V just to get 2.6ghz. Now the 5600 on this one is a 90nm. Windsor with 2mb L2 with F3 stepping, overclocks very well. Got it running at 3.3 with just 1.35V.
