What is the best way to automate a computer shutdown at let's say 5AM in the morning. A way in which it ensures the computer shuts down and is not stopped by a "You didn't save, are you sure you want to exit" message box?

buy one of those alarm clocks that plays a cd for a alarm, put in a cd of people claping and set the alarm for 5am, buy the clapper (clap hands and shuts off or on) and hook up your UPS to it (if you do not have one get it), hook up your ups to your pc via Serial or USB tell it to shutdown on power failure, FIN. :P

LOL at tonyBAMF's idea. Although I have to admit it is rather ingeanius(SP?) and out of the box. :)

If the UPS suffers a failure, the computer attatched to it will terminate.
