Best Bang For Buck?

Well, right now Im on a crappy laptop that lags horribly for every single game out there! I even get 0.5 fps on Squares 2! (a simple flash game I think). It's horribly depressing, so I'm getting a new computer. I currently have a laptop, but I'm getting a desktop cause they're way cheaper for better.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew a good Desktop I could get? I looked at this one, and it seems nice: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=675175&CatIds=83,84,408&AffixedCode=WW&=&=
but if anyone can help me out on a better deal, it would be well appreciated :)

P.S: Price limit: $1000+/-

In which province are you ?

What do you use your computer for ? What do you need with it ? I assume it is monitor, keyboard, mouse, operating system(XP, Vista or Linux ?), maybe even speakers.

Are you ready to get thinking and start building a system on your own or do you want to stick to prebuilt (knowing that they are cheaper in quality and often costier) ?

If you want to stick to pre-build and will not looking for upgrade later. I will suggest you go to dell.
go to dell.ca, choosing Inspiron Desktops 530 Family Entertainment, $799. Going to Graphic card option, and add a 8600GT 256MB. Come up with $949.
This system with
intel E4400
mATX MB with G31/G33 chipset
2GB DDR2 667 RAM
250GB HDD
8600GT 256MB GPU
16X DVD+/-RW Drive
19 widescreen Monitor
You can use this for bases and compare with other PC you can find on Highstreet/ web

Hmm.. I don't know how to build one, but if I got all the parts I suppose it wouldn't be that hard, would it ?

It's not hard at all, just follow the manual for the motherboard and take your time, making sure you have all the connections right.

Sometimes the hardest part is loading the software.

You will be much happier by building your own, pride in accomplishment is worth just as much as the money you will save by building your own.

Plus you will be getting higher quality of parts in one you build than one you buy.

90% of the parts in a pre built system are the cheapest parts they can find to build it, usually crap that a company can not get rid of otherwise.
