I have a Acer 22" LCD widescreen and I'm running at a resolution of 1680 x 1050 . Would I benefit more from a 8800gtx or the 8800gts ( G92 ) . Please consider cost and performance. I 've just ordered a new mobo ( P5K Premium Black Pearl Edition and will either be ordering a Q6600 go or the Q9450 when available.

Best cost to performance card is the 8800gt. The 512Mb of VRAM is more than enough to handle WSXVGA, while the GTX's 768 would be slight overkill IMO. The G92 GTS offers around 10% extra performance, for $50+ more. Your choice.

The 3870 is also a great card for the money.

Yeah I've been reading about the 3870 but was told that ATI can't perform as well as Nvidia. Someone said it was due to the drivers. If I knew that 3870 would be a good card I might change my mobo to the Maximus Formula for crossfire options. I have until 12:00 today to change my mind.

Ati doesn't perform as well as Nvidia for many reason, but I doubt any of them are technical. They may just shy away from competing in the highest part of the graphic card spectrum, because let's face it, it's a fairly small minority of the market. The 3870 stands as it is; 85% the performance of the 8800gt, for a portion less. It's true that the 3870 has yet to fall and meet it's MSRP, which is another piece to account for.

The cheapest 3870 I could find on newegg is $240. 15% extra performance for only 30 bucks extra is a no brainer, I could call that in my sleep. I stand by the 8800gt, the 3870 is great, but the prices need to fall (which they will) just abit more before it becomes a head-on combatant.
