stay away from brands that have no product name what so ever. there real cheap but you tend to toss alot of them

Most cd players (car or home audio) do not play DVD's... so that might be a reason for buying cd's and not dvd's..... I bought a 100 pack of TDK cd-r's and only 1 out of the 100 was bad... bought a second 100 pack and none of them were bad.
I have heard Sony is the worst... so stay away.. I have never bought memorex or Maxell so I do not know how good they are. I would stay away from the really cheap brands..
As for DVD's I bought Verbatim DVD+RW and while they are REAL expensive I have had zero problems with them.

memorex cdrs are good, just generally avoid cds not made by a cd making company. also as long as the cdrs dont come on a big spindle and have shiny silver coating on them it should be fine. so never buy cheap ones cos mine disentegrated after heavy use

1. Memorex doesnt make CDs. They sell them (and unfortunately, yes, it its a big difference).
2. Companies like Tayo Yuiden, Mitsubishi, Ritek, Moser Baer, Mitsui, Kodak make superb discs. Second tier discs are made by TDK, Hitachi Maxell. Crummy discs by Princo, CMC, Prodisc, SKC etc. You can determine the actual make of the CDs by using an ATIP reader like http://www.cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/cdridentifier.cfm
3. What difference does it make? The number of C1/C2 errors. C1 errors arent that big of a deal since they are usually easily dealt with by the hardware and laser calibration however C2 errors can be minimized/eliminated with by using high quality media and not burning fast. If you are in a position where you have-to/are using cheap media, burn slower.
4. Also, a good burner can make the 2nd most amount of difference (after the media). In general DVD burners arent so great at burning CDs so if you've got a dedicated cd-burner, use that.

I have had good luck with TDK and Memorex. I ususally burn at 4X (even though the media and the burner can go to 6X or 8X)
I am not in that big of a hurry to get my burning done. lol

yeh that was my experience my first cdrw drive was an LG 8 4 32 lol and it cost £100 or so. its still alive though which is good.
when i was talking about memorex i meant the brand.
the problem with cdrs and cdrw discs is not their burning capability but theyre life span, especially cd-rws which get scratched - eventually you cant use them for important stuff and u have to throw them away.
