Well yes, considering I don't want to go through the hassle of buying a new motherboard.

Do you see the ummm link? I'm not sure how old it actually is... I bought it from someone that built the computer about.. a year and a half ago. Who knows how long they've had it.

I doubt I'd see any major improvement from my AMD Athlon XP 2600+ @ 1.9GHz

no... if anything you would need a new motherboard and go for intel.
