Best Deal?

Go for the E6600 because it's the first in the line to come with 4 MB L2 cache which makes a HUGE difference! You can get them on Newegg now for $316 last I checked. The 4 MB cache is the sweet spot for sure. I'll be getting this CPU in a couple seasons once the DX10 cards drop a little in price.

The extra 2mb cache makes a huge difference? Can you prove it?
 
It does not make a huge difference, unless you are pushing your computer with todays most demanding cpu intensive programs and than performing benchmarks with a different computer. I think it is more a selling point if anything.
 
psh! go look up some benchmarks for yourself!

You all might as well argue the same point when comparing single to dual core processors.

It all depends on what he's going to be using the CPU for. If it's for games, then the E6600 hits the sweet spot between the price/performance ratio. But if it's for word processing and web surfing, then a single single core processor for less than $100 would be just as useful.

Plus, i've seen easily OC'ed to 3GHz (+600MHz), and it smokes the competition.
 
3Ghz really is a mild overclock for an E6600. It really depends on your other components/budget, the key is achieving balance.
